Scamp thanks you. At fourteen years old, the one-eyed chihuahua came to ARL after he was reported to be very aggressive. But when we met him, we noticed his behavior simply appeared to be stemming from a place of stress and discomfort.

During the first few days we spent with Scamp, we learned how snappy he can become when other people enter his space. Understanding this and how the stress of shelter life can be a leading cause of behavioral issues for animals like him, we placed Scamp in a foster home where he could properly decompress and gain the trust of new people and places.

Within one week of staying with his foster family, Scamp blossomed into a completely different dog! When his foster family showed respect for his space and let him come to them on his own terms, he quickly settled in and began to enjoy the company and environment of his foster home, even going as far as soliciting snuggles and belly rubs for attention! He is currently available for adoption and hopes to find a family of his own soon! You can see Scamp’s adoption bio here.

While Scamp’s story at the ARL is not quite finished yet, we would like to thank his amazing foster family for providing him a loving home to decompress in and work through his stressors. Our foster families are amazing, and we truly couldn’t save as many lives as we do without their incredible support!
