Country thanks you. When we removed him from a home containing over sixty cats, he had no idea how to react to life at the ARL. He was used to spending his days isolated amongst other cats rather than daily caregivers.
As with most cats who enter our care, Country spent a few days under the supervision of our Feline Behavior and Enrichment Supervisor to see if he could decompress. Sometimes cats like him adjust to spending time around people, but for Country, he just couldn’t build up his confidence. While he wasn’t feral, his anxiety around people posed a problem of placing him in a traditional home setting.
Thankfully, our Working Cat Program offers an alternative placement for cats like Country who cannot thrive in a home with caregivers. Cats in this program typically go on to live in an alternative environment such as a barn or a warehouse. Currently, Country is thriving in our barn at ARL while he waits for his new home, where his stress has been significantly relieved. Although Country’s story is unique, his need for your support is just like every other animal that we welcome into the shelter every day. Your support helps pay for lifesaving programs that provide sanctuary for animals just like Country.
