This holiday season, our Home for the Holidays program proved once again just how powerful even just a little time in a loving home can be. From December 23 through January 2, 16 animals were welcomed into temporary foster homes, giving them a much-needed break from the shelter and a chance to experience the comfort and joy of the holidays in a home environment.

One of those animals was Loofah, the black pit bull pictured above, who truly embraced her holiday vacation. From cozy naps to quality time with her foster family, Loofah’s time away from the shelter allowed her personality to shine and reminded us all why these short-term foster opportunities matter so much.

Home for the Holidays is a program we proudly offer each year, inviting members of our community to open their homes to an animal in our care. Participants can sign up to temporarily host a dog, cat, guinea pig, rabbit, or any other animal we may have for a seasonal sleepover. Then, when we find the right match, we reach out to make the holiday magic happen.

To ensure an easy stay for all, we are proud to offer all supplies from food and treats, to toys and a bed that the pet may need during their time away. This year, our generous supporters made an even greater impact by helping cover the cost of these essentials, contributing to over $5,000 in support of this program.

We are incredibly grateful for these opportunities, not only because our animals receive a break from the stress of shelter life, but because we learn so much from those who welcome them in as well. Foster families help us better understand an animal’s personality, routines, and needs in a home setting. This insight is invaluable in helping them find the right future home.

To everyone who participated, supported, or shared our Home for the Holidays program: thank you. Your compassion made this season brighter and full of hope for 16 very deserving animals and for all of us who care for them.
