Some pets, like a tiny kitten named Trixie, need a little extra help on their road to recovery. When she arrived at the ARL with an infected eye that wouldn’t heal on its own, our medical team turned to a remarkable treatment made possible by another shelter pet.

Healthy blood from a donor can be carefully processed into a serum that helps soothe and heal eye infections. Enter Oslo, one of our shelter dogs at the time, who didn’t hesitate to lend a paw. His blood donation was transformed into a healing serum that’s now helping Trixie’s eye recover, a beautiful reminder of how one animal’s gift can change another’s life.

And thanks to that lifesaving gift, both pets have brighter futures ahead. Oslo has since found a loving family of his own, and Trixie is thriving in a foster home that already hopes to make her a permanent part of their family.
